The data we collect
The table below provides an overview of the data we collect in ELSA.
At each wave of ELSA, interviewers have asked respondents to complete a core self-completion questionnaire covering questions such as wellbeing, relationships, alcohol consumption.
A health visit has also been carried out in waves 2, 4, 6, 8 and 9 and a further health visit is due to take place in wave 11. Various physical examination and performance data have been obtained from the health visits, along with biological samples collected for analysis as detailed in the table.
Other modules have been added to the main interview in specific waves which are all available on our study documentation page:
-
Wave 1-6, 11: End of life interview
-
Wave 3: Self-completion on health and a self-completion on work
-
Wave 3: Life history interview
-
Waves 6 and 8: Self-completion on sexual activity and relationships
-
Wave 9: Online nutrition survey.
