Study documentation
All ELSA interviews for waves 1-11 were conducted face-to-face using computer-assisted interviewing (CAPI), combined with self-completion questionnaires completed using pen and paper (PAPI).
A CAPI interview and health visit have been carried out for all participants at waves 2, 4, 6 and 11 and for half of the participants in waves 8 and 9.
Wave 0-11 data are now available on UKDS: SN 5050 English Longitudinal Study of Ageing: Waves 0-11, 1998-2024
Wave 12
Fieldwork for Wave 12 started in October 2025 and is due for completion in September 2026.
ELSA Wave 12 is web-first with the option of a CAPI interview for participants who request one. For web respondents, the cognitive module is being carried out over the telephone. There is no health visit in Wave 12.
The Wave 12 questionnaire is now available under the relevant tab below. Note that this is not the final version and will be subject to change, such as variable names for archiving, additional amends to the routing or added clarifications.
The Wave 12 dataset is due for release in early 2027.
This repository is under review for potential modification in compliance with Administration directives.
