All ELSA interviews for waves 1-11 were conducted face-to-face using computer-assisted interviewing (CAPI), combined with self-completion questionnaires completed using pen and paper (PAPI).
A CAPI interview and PAPI self-completion questionnaire administered by an interviewer are carried out at every wave.
A CAPI interview and health visit have been carried out for all participants at waves 2, 4, 6 and 11 and for half of the participants in waves 8 and 9.
Wave 11
Fieldwork for Wave 11 ws completed in October 2024. Wave 11 includes a health visit for the whole sample.
Wave 11 data are now available on UKDS: SN 5050 English Longitudinal Study of Ageing: Waves 0-11, 1998-2024
